Wooden Christmas Ornaments for a Classic Holiday Tree

broken image

Wooden Christmas ornaments are a lovely way to decorate your Christmas tree every year. They look elegant draped over the pine needles among twinkling lights, whether homemade or purchased. There's something about wooden ornaments that no one else can match. It has to be the homemade feel and the fine details.

1. Wooden Mitten Christmas Ornaments

Mitten ornaments look great on a Christmas tree with twinkling lights. Make your own wooden mitten ornaments from scrap wood or Online craft store cutouts. Paint or colour the wood with wood markers. If you don't want to make your own, there are a plethora of Christmas ornaments like this available for purchase online.

2. Wooden Countdown to Christmas Ornament

Keep track of the days in December with a wooden countdown ornament. There are many available online, or you can make your own with tools from a craft or hardware store. Wood Christmas ornaments are simple to make; all you need to do is get creative with your materials.

3. DIY Wood Ornaments

Using a circular piece of wood, create a simple wooden ornament. These can be found at a craft or hardware store. Simply paint the wood and embellish it with glitter, wording, craft supplies, and other embellishments. Customize them each Christmas so that your collection grows year after year. Because of their simplicity, wood ornaments are my favourite ornaments.

4. Easy Wooden Tree Cookie Ornament

Did you know you can buy tree cookies at a craft store (or really anywhere)? Small (and large) tree cookies are incredibly easy to decorate for the holidays. Add whatever you want to the surface with paint or paint pens. These make great holiday gift tags or gifts for friends and family. Use these wood Christmas ornaments year after year, and continue to make more to add to your collection.

5. Scrap Wood Candy Ornaments

Request scrap wood from a woodworker you know. They may have small rings or dowels that you can easily wrap in striped paper to make "candy" ornaments. Simply attach a string or hook and it will hang nicely on any tree. Wrap the candy ends in ribbon to keep them closed. You might need some hot glue to finish the job. Plus, they don't break like glass ornaments on a Christmas tree.

6. DIY Photo Christmas Ornament

The best Christmas ornaments to make are those that contain memories. To make a small photo to hang on your tree, use a scrap piece of wood, store-bought wood, or a tree cookie. Begin by printing and cutting your favourite photo to the size of the wood. Then use Mod Podge and a paintbrush to adhere it. To protect it from wear and tear, apply a coat on top. If you have young children, these make wonderful gifts every year.
